Akeel Bilgrami’s lecture will draw from an intellectual history that goes from Kant, though Hegel and Marx, to Wittgenstein, to construct a framework that links the notion of freedom to the notion of norms, with a view to exploring the relationship between the social and the individual. Carol Rovane will address issues that relate to groupe agency. Rationality, group agency and group responsibility are important notions when it comes to thinking about the impact of collectives and the social expectations about it but the classical frames of rationality, agentivity and accountability are perhaps not fully adequate in this respect, and this must be discussed. This research workshop will be an occasion to bring commonality and the underlying issues of cooperation into the picture in order to correlate responsibility and the benefits of organization in a relevant way. 

La conférence d'Akeel Bilgrami s'appuiera sur une histoire intellectuelle qui va de Kant à Wittgenstein en passant par Hegel et Marx, afin de construire un cadre reliant la notion de liberté à celle de normes, dans le but d'explorer la relation entre le social et l'individuel. Carol Rovane abordera des questions liées à l’agentivité collective. La rationalité, l'agentivité collective et la responsabilité de groupe sont des notions importantes lorsqu'il s'agit de réfléchir à l'impact des collectifs et aux attentes sociales à leur égard, mais les cadres classiques de la rationalité, de l'action et de la responsabilité ne sont peut-être pas tout à fait adéquats à cet égard, et cela doit être discuté. L'atelier de recherche sera l'occasion de faire intervenir la mise en commun (le Commun) et les enjeux sous-jacents de la coopération afin de mettre en corrélation d’une manière pertinente la responsabilité et les avantages de l'organisation.
